Integration process, or the getting close process started with the "MAP", and Georgia was promised a place in Nato. This was the political situation preceding the conflict. We all know what was the reaction of the Russian side on this, deputy Girinovski even openly started talking about the war, I personally heard him saying on TV that if Georgia doesn't drop plans for integrating with west even military operation is possible. After this Russia passed a very interesting law, this law states that Russia can stage military operation anyplace in the world under the motive of protection of it's citizens. Are you following? well, this already sets the picture, and most of us, I mean people with brains... we knew what would happen next. Before war, on the border, 16 policemen were killed by Osetian terrorists. This was the last drop that Georgian side couldn't swallow. And government decided to act. This was a big mistake, since Russian troops were already stationed behind the Roki tunnel, waiting for the conflict to start. What followed was the few day war, and 2 weeks of Russian occupation of Georgia... With only one mission, to change rightfully elected government, and put pro-Russian politician in his place. Putin, also medvedev openly admitted this to Raise. You don't have to be a genius to understand who staged the war. And which side is guilty, just read the free press, and move the gray substance in your head. As for the civilian death numbers, who are you kidding? what source did you use to come up with that number? As far as I know Russians didn't let any independent, European observers in the region... why??? because they are hiding the truth, and the Truth IS: what happened in Osetia, was a genocide against Georgian people! I can't help but think the timing with the olympics was a way to distract media attention, and unfortunately it is working. Hopefully this situation will be resolved peacefully, for the sake both of democracy and our international system of law.
